Free Lunch Design today revealed the upcoming release of the latest title in the widely popular Icy Tower series. Icy Tower 2 will soon hit an Apple device near you.

Created by Johan Peitz and originally released by Free Lunch Design for PC in 2001 the Icy Tower series is quite possibly the biggest game success you may never have heard of.

The game is available for PC, Mac, Facebook and soon the iOS platform, much to the fan’s delight. It has been played by more than 40 million people and devoted fans across the globe regularly meet up for Icy Tower gatherings. It’s that good.

The concept of the game is as easy as it is brilliant: Help the main character Harold the Homeboy climb a never-ending tower.

Says Johan Peitz: “When I originally created Icy Tower I never intended it to be played outside my own circle of friends. I had no idea that it would turn into a crazy success. I’m really happy to see Harold appear on iOS in a brand new adventure and I’m even happier that we’ve managed to create an outstanding new title worthy the Icy Tower brand.”

Icy Tower 2 will be released for iOS in 2012.

    “Icy Tower coming to iOS”

But you already had the original Icy Tower on iOS, why did you not mention it and remove it?

    Hi Rowan,

The “original” Icy Tower in the App Store was developed by another developer, under a license, and that license has expired. We have however developed our own, official version, which will be out in the App Store very soon. More info here: http://www.freelunchdesign.com/coming-up-icy-tower-classic/
